Oregon Writers Groups

Oregon writers groups are plentiful–so much so that we can’t cram them all into this listing in a single sitting. Consider this page to be a work in progress–writers who don’t see their favorite Oregon writers group should let us know, we’d love to add you to the list! Get in touch: editor at freelance (dash) zone dot com.

If you run an Oregon writers group you’d like to get additional publicity for, consider doing an ad swap with Freelance-Zone.com. We would be happy to discuss trading 200×200 ad space for your writer’s group in this space in exchange for a similar ad for FZ on your writer’s group page.

An Association of Writers provides fellowship, feedback and forums for writers. AAW meets the second Monday of each month at Mercy Community Education at 10:45 am. Mercy Community Education is located at 2459 NW Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. Forty-some writers of diverse genre, experience and skill level belong to AAW. Monthly meetings feature either presentations on the art/business of writing or read-and-critiques. Various genre and read-and-critique subgroups meet throughout the month.  An Association of Writers can be found on Facebook.

The Central Oregon Writers Guild features intensive workshops, regular meetings and resources. Would that every writer’s guild were this active! A great resource for writers in the central Oregon area.

Portland Writers describes itself as a “free service to help writers connect with readers.” This group requires you to join a Yahoo! Groups list in order to participate in the conversations, which include dates for new writer’s workshops, Portland writing contests and more.

The Oregon Writers Colony is a getaway and event space for writers. They’ve been serving the Oregon writing community for 27 years as a non-profit.

Oregon Authors is an online resource created by the Oregon Library Association and Oregon Center For The Book.

Wilamette Writers calls itself the largest writers’ organization in Oregon and “One of the largest writers’ organizations in the United States”. This group does cover an impressive amount of geography, with chapters in Salem, Mid-Valley, Oregon Coast and Southern Oregon just to name a few.

No list of Portland writing resources would be complete without a mention of The Cult, the official Chuck Palahniuk site, which has featured writing workshops and sessions online by the author of Fight Club and Invisible Monsters himself. For a certain type of writer, this is a priceless destination.
