Arkansas Writing Programs

Arkansas writing programs include everything from community college and university degree programs to independent classes for Arkansas writers at non-profit writing centers and more. This is by no means a complete or exhaustive list of Arkansas writing programs; this collection is a work in progress and we’d love to know about any programs we might have missed. The University of Arkansas English Department offers an MFA track for Creative Writing and Translation. According to the official site, the program requires “sixty hours of coursework, with up to eighteen hours transferable for students holding the MA in English. Students with bachelor’s degrees generally take four years to complete the curriculum, while those with master’s degrees may finish in three years or less.” Contact them at:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has a Rhetoric and Writing Department offering a Masters degree in Professional and Technical writing. Contact them at:

The University of Central Arkansas in Conway features a Writing Department offering a Writing major, plus Creative Writing major and a Linguistics Major. All three are also offered as minors. The Mass Communication department also has writing program options for those interested in Journalism degrees and Communication.

Arkansas Tech offers an MFA program in Creative Writing. The college started the program in 1975, and claims it is “the only program of its kind in this region”, according to the official site. For general information call (479) 968-0389.
