Georgia Writers Groups

Georgia Writers Groups

There are plenty of writers groups in Georgia, everywhere from Gainesville to Atlanta. This list, a work in progress to be sure, is a collection of what we’ve discovered so far.

Georgia Writers Groups

Northeast Georgia Writers meets once a month, but they also feature conferences that replace some of the monthly meetings. This group also publishes an anthology, so there are additional opportunities for the right authors to get some exposure.

Georgia Writers Association is a non-profit group for writers offering classes, seminars and satellite groups for those who can’t attend events at the main location(s). The website for GWA is a bit frustrating to navigate–we had to click three or four times to get to content like conference information and About Us info, but GWA does have some valuable services to offer.

The Atlanta Writers Club celebrated its 95 anniversary in 2009 and shows no sign of letting up. They welcome professional and amateur writers and provide critique groups, writing contests, and seminars.

The Decatur-based Village Writers Group is a writing community dedicated to sharing information and support. They meet once per month and publish an anthology.

The Southeastern Writers Association offers the usual workshops, conferences and other services, but they make a point to welcome non-fiction writers into the fold, which is something we’d like to see more writer’s groups do.

Southern Breeze is a writers group supporting children’s book writers and illustrators. They serve Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia, so there are plenty of networking opportunities.

The Atlanta Branch of the National League of Pen Women supports writers, but also artists and composers. For the multi-tasking writer, this group could be quite valuable.
