Cynthia Clampitt

Cynthia Clampitt has been a freelance writer for 25 years. She is also a food historian, a world traveler, and the author of the award-winning travel narrative Waltzing Australia.

Cynthia’s writing tends to range around her interests: travel, food, language, history, geography, and culture, and has appeared in hundreds of articles and numerous books. While she loves trade writing, her passion for academics has led her to write for just about every major educational publisher in the U.S, including the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. In addition to history and geography textbooks, she has written extensively on language arts (composition, grammar, etymology, and language acquisition).

Cynthia has published in outlets as diverse as North Shore Magazine, Hungry Magazine, Local Beet, and Farmers Markets Today, and she has two major entries in the recently released Food Cultures of the World Encyclopedia.

In addition to writing, Cynthia also enjoys public speaking, mostly about travel—both destination pieces and Travel Savvy, which helps others learn how to travel safely, easily, and as often as possible.

Cynthia is a member of the Society of Women Geographers, Culinary Historians of Chicago, International Association of Culinary Professionals, Chicago Writers Association, Midwest Writers Association, and Mensa.
