Massachusetts Writers Groups

The New England Newspaper and Press Association is a good resource for those working with Massachusetts media. This used to be two separate organizations that have joined forces for the benefit of both.

The National Writers Union Boston Chapter has plenty to offer writers who need NWU services.

Greater Boston Technical Writers is a Meet-up.com based group for, you guessed it, professional technical writers.

The Exotic Pen Writers of Harvard Square is a private Meetup.com-based group that meets as a collective rather than as a regular seminar with a teacher or mentor.

Grub Street features regular seminars, workshops and conferences to help writers develop and learn professional skills.

Dune Hollow Writers is based in Orleans and offers workshops designed to help writers “find your inner voice and play with many facets of your writer self.” The first session is free.

The New England Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators serves Massachusetts as well as the rest of New England.

Amherst Writers and Artists serves writers in a variety of genres. One of the outreach programs is designed for what the non-profit group describes as “traditionally silenced populations”.

There’s a writers group that meets monthly (first Thursday of the month) at the Wilks Branch of the New Bedford Public Library from 6-7:30.  There is no fee and writers of all skill levels and genres are invited.  The group is led by a published author, but the point of it is to supply a place where writers can share their work, and to support each other.  For more info, email me at mkruger (at) sailsinc.org or call Wilks directly at 508-991-6214, and ask for Karen or Mary.

LinkedIn members should check out the list of Massachusetts writers for networking purposes.
