Glossary Of Rhetorical Terms

uofkby Catherine L. Tully

Thanks to the University of Kentucky’s Department of Modern & Classical Languages, Literatures & Cultures for this wonderfully compiled resource…

The Glossary of Rhetorical Terms includes definitions and examples of terminology such as hyperbole, irony, oxymoron and paradox. There are also terms here that I have never heard of too, such as hendiadys and polysyndeton. I spent 20 minutes browsing this site and came out knowing far more than when I went it. I highly recommend at least a peek.

  1. Great list! My favorite has always been synecdoche–the part denoting the whole. It’s a cool-sounding word and a slick conceptual way of painting an image.
