We’re glad there are a wide range of resources for freelance writers in Nebraska, but we’re never convinced this list of writers groups will ever be complete. If your favorite writers group in Nebraska is not listed here, please get in touch with us and let us know–we’d be happy to add another entry to our list of Nebraska writers groups and resources.
Send all the vital information including when and where your writers group meets, plus the types of writing served by your group and whether there’s a membership fee. Send everything to

And please feel free to link back to us on your writer’s group official site. We’d be very grateful!
Nebraska Writers Groups
The Nebraska Writers Guild started in 1925 and boasts famous members including Willa Cather. Today, the guild serves writers across a wide variety of genres including journalism and novel writing.
The Nebraska Writing Project serves educators and affiliated writers. This site is hosted by the University of Nebraska.
We love the mission statement of the Nebraska Writers Workshop, which includes the following; “To provide Omaha area writers of all genre and form the opportunity to come together for mutual support, artistic growth, and non-credit learning at NO CHARGE.”
Journalists should have a look at the Nebraska Press Association.
LinkedIn members will want to check out the list of Nebraska Writers for networking purposes.
The Writers Wordshop meets twice a month in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Heartland Writers Group is based in Omaha, Nebraska and serves a wide variety of genres, though this Nebraska writers group seems to be focused on book writing. There is one unusual requirement to join this group–you have to be a member of the Romance Writers of America first. While the Heartland Writers Group of Omaha may serve a variety of genres, this requirement would limit the appeal for some writers…perhaps that’s by design?
