How to Add Quality to Your Freelance Writing Blog

improve your blogThere are plenty of ways you can add quality to your freelance writing blog. If you’re looking to spruce up your site, try a few of these:

Use quality images. Square images work better than rectangles in some cases, and it’s good to avoid using images that only feature company logos, especially when the logos mirror what’s in your headline field. Seeing the same phrase twice is redundant.

Use larger images. Small photos and graphics don’t have the same attention-grabbing power that a large, attractive picture does. Sometimes you want a smaller pic, but if you’re trying to grab the eye, bigger is better.

Write about what interests you. What do you look for in blogs written by other freelancers? Try adding that to your own blog.

More snark. Or less. Did you start off wanting a snarky attitude in your blog, but didn’t feel confident enough to pull it off? Or did you begin with a smart-alec tone that you’re no longer into using? Change things up. You don’t need to make a grand announcement about it, just alter the blog to your taste and fire away.

Examine the competition. What are the other blogs doing poorly? Can you do it better? Find a hole in the competition’s strategy and exploit it.

Increase your post count. If you’re only posting once per day, consider adding more posts per day, even if it’s only one or two days per week. More fresh content means more potential eyeballs on your blog each day.

Invite guests. Everybody knows about guest bloggers, so the “invite guests” suggestion is a total “no duh” idea. But what about inviting guest bloggers your readers don’t expect? For example, what about having a freelance voice artist do a guest blog about their own freelance lifestyle? How do the two compare? Surprise your readers with your guest bloggers.
