Make sure you continue to nurture that spark that made you want to become a writer. What do I do? I keep pitching travel pieces, because it is what I love to write. And guess what? I get assignments. This helps me continue moving forward as a writer. If you get away from reaching toward what you want to do, you may be trapping yourself in an endless cycle of work that makes you unhappy. So take those jobs that help you make the bills, but keep reaching out toward that which will make you feel good. Sure, it is extra work–but remember that the payoff is well worth it.
