If you are in the mood to have a movie night and have writing on the brain, why not stock up on a few flicks that have a writer as the main character?
In this article by Entertainment Weekly you will find 14 suggestions ranging from Barton Fink to Leaving Las Vegas. Choose the ones that appeal to your mood, pop some popcorn, dim the lights–and watch somebody else write for a change.
If you have a “writer movie” you enjoy–post it here. I’d love to get a few that aren’t on the list, or hear your favorites…
Finding Forrester with Sean Connery (love that movie).
Stranger than Fiction, with Emma Thompson.
Shakespeare in Love, with Joseph Fiennes.
…and those are just off the top of my head!
Finding Forrester is great–I agree! I haven’t seen the other two, but I’ll put them on my list…thanks Deb!
Hi, Catherine,
This must be the week for writers watching movies about writers! I blogged about it earlier, too, after re-watching “Throw Momma From the Train.” (Warning! shameless self-plug link: http://museinks.blogspot.com/2009/09/top-10-movies-for-and-about-writers.html)
Some of my Top 10 Movies About Writers:
* Throw Momma…
* Moulin Rouge
* Stranger Than Fiction
* The remake of “D.O.A.”
* Shattered Glass
* Atonement
* and the woefully underseen “Tune in Tomorrow.”
I agree with Deb — I liked “Finding Forrester,” too — and not just because Rich’s screenplay was a Nicholl finalist… 🙂
I must confess — I tend to lean toward comedies. Really _really_ disliked “Barton Fink.”
Keep on keeping on!
Ami Hendrickson
Thanks for ringing in Ami! For the record–I didn’t like Barton Fink one bit either. Too weird for me.
