CALIFORNIA WRITING PROGRAMS

The University of Southern California in Los Angeles has an English program that includes a PhD track in Creative Writing and Literature.  There are also B.A. programs at USC in English with an emphasis on Creative Writing. These are offered through the USC College of Arts, Letters and Sciences.

The Stanford University Program in Writing and Rhetoric is aimed at students across a variety of degree tracks. It’s designed to help prepare college students for the rigors of upper level undergrad and graduate work. There are three levels, one for freshman and sophomore year, with the third beginning once the first two levels are complete.

California State University in Fresno offers programs in Creative Writing and Communication, and also Print and Broadcast Journalism, which have writing-intensive sections as well as technical sections. There are undergraduate and MFA tracks. Contact CSU at:

California College of the Arts offers undergraduate and MFA programs in Writing, and also a dual-degree that combines Writing with Visual and Critical Studies. CCA has two campuses; one in Oakland and one in San Francisco. Contact them:
