Newsworthy Charity: Felony Franks

felony-franks

If you are looking for a newsworthy charity/food shop, and a subject that has raised more than a few eyebrows, check out Felony Franks in Chicago. This food stop is the brainchild of Jim Andrews, and the hot dog stand is going to be hiring rehabilitated ex-offenders as a way to offer steady employment to those who have great difficulty finding it. This would make an interesting article for those who are looking for something different to write about. It is located on the corner of Western and Jackson and is slated to open soon.

If you get a chance to sample the dogs–drop a line and let us know how they stack up!

Newsworthy Charity: A Better LA

A Better LA was founded by USC football coach Pete Carroll in 2003 as a way to reduce violence and empower change in the area. The organization funds salaries for outreach workers, provides free classes for the community and funds a variety of activities and sports to help bring people together in a positive environment. In an area where this is so needed, this organization provides some hope for both youth and their families. Take a closer look here. This is a great charity to highlight if you are looking for something in California or an organization that works with teens.

Newman’s Own  and the Hole in the Wall Camps are worth a mention in the “newsworthy charities” category for several reasons. The company is always coming up with new products, Paul Newman is a total class act – AND – the money goes to charity. Newman’s products are also delicious–I know–I buy them! Check out the site for information on the camps–they provide a fun experience for kids with serious illnesses; free of charge. There are even camps located in places such as Ireland, Florida and France.

To date, the Newman’s Own brand has raised over $200 million dollars for charity. Not bad for something that started out as a whim….if you don’t know the story, it is worth a look.

There are a lot of stories here…………………..
