Spring Cleaning For The Writer

Catherine L. Tullyby Catherine L. Tully

Although it’s raining today, I’ve seen enough sunshine to know that spring is right around the corner here in Chicago. For those of us that live in a colder climate, this means opening the windows again and setting foot outside for more than just the time it takes to get to the car or the garbage can. It also means a good spring cleaning.

This can easily apply to the life of a writer–regardless of the climate you find yourself in. Spring is a good time to take care of some of those tasks you’ve been putting off–before summer arrives. Here’s a list of what I’m going to attempt. I’d love for people to add their own suggestions in the comments area. Help everyone out, we’ll get a master list going…

  • Defragment my hard drive
  • Check my Windows updates and make sure both that and virus protection is current
  • Replenesh my business cards
  • Finally put that stack of papers on my desk into the appropriate file folders
  • Clean my computer screen and use compressed air to clean the keyboard
  • Refresh the music on my MP3 player
  • Donate any books I haven’t opened in the past year
  • Touch base with clients that I have been out of touch with for a while
  • Clear off my bulletin board
  • Buy new pens, paper clips and office supplies
  • Back up my computer (more on this in another post down the line)
  • Return any e-mails that have been waiting for a while
  • Update my website
  • Update my bio information on this site and 4dancers

I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list as I go here, but don’t let that stop you from dropping a suggestion in the comments section. I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of things here…

What’s on your list?
