Your Freelance Journey

journeyby Catherine L. Tully

You never know what is ahead of you on your freelance journey. I can’t tell you the amount of times that I have had a curve thrown my way. Sometimes it is a good one–an unexpected job, or a “yes” on a query I had long forgotten about. Sometimes it is a disappointment–a magazine folds before my article can be published, or I don’t get an assignment that I really wanted.

But it’s all about the journey.

One thing I love–no matter what–is this journey. I love waking up in the morning and going to work in my pajamas if I feel like it. I enjoy the fact that if I want to turn down a job I don’t like, I can do that. I make the rules and I set my own schedule. There is no subsititute.

I don’t know if I could ever go back to working a real job again. Some days I just wake up feeling…

thankful that I chose the path that I did. Today was one of those days. I thought I’d share that sentiment with my fellow writers here on Freelance-Zone and spread the cheer. Enjoy your day!

  1. Even new to the game like I am, I’m finding this is true. The journey’s full of ups and downs, but so far, it’s been a really interesting one despite the curve balls. Of course, making a consistent living is the ultimate goal, but writing about what I love and connecting with others about it is still a great feeling.

  2. Nice thoughts, Catherine. There *is* no substitute. As a connection of mine on LinkedIn put it this morning: “I’m unemployable…That’s why I’m in business–me and jobs don’t mix.”

    Have a great weekend.

    Jake
