Relaxation For The Writer

No matter how busy your are or how many deadlines you have–you need to take periodic breaks during the day to stay refreshed. How do I do this? Two ways. The first is what I like to call my “happy place”. Any time I see a photo in a magazine that makes me feel good, I rip it out and hang it somewhere near my desk area. When I need a few moments to zone out and rest, I look at the picture and it helps me to relax. I change it periodically, because the one thing I have learned is that you wind up not paying attention to images if you leave them up for too long. The other way I relax is by taking deep breaths. Sound too basic? Try it before you judge!

Just these two simple things help keep me fresh and give me a bit of relaxation throughout the day. Any tips to share? Post them here….

  1. I tend to relax and keep myself fresh using a variety of methods during busy writing days. I get up from my desk and sit in another room for a few minutes. Changing my surroundings entirely creates a fresh feeling. I like to grab my laptop and work outside of the house for a couple hours if I have time. This has kept me from getting bored with my routine.

I’ll sometimes surf television channels or the internet for 15 minutes looking for nothing in particular. Stretching and quick healthy snack breaks help, too. I agree that deep breathing really helps to relieve tension in the body.

Relaxation is certainly called for, and is even more important during busy times. It helps me be more productive.
